The Handoff
The 99 recursion builds the small fast units — tick → tink → hork. At the hork it hands off to a declared base-10 logic for human-scale duration. The universe runs on 99 at the small scale and rounds to 10 at the human scale. This is not a fudge. This is how measurement actually works. The Planck scale and the metre are also not the same number.

Tried to fit 3 horks into a tonk when he should have aimed for 3 horks per person. Optimised for the wrong metric. Treated hork as throughput unit instead of presence unit. Confused frequency with quality, coverage with care. Augustus in the sheets — borrowed from February to pad August. Never got anyone to the ponk. Not in the tonk conversation.

Did not eat much. Thought about logistics. At some point during tonk 3 or 4 was aware of being a professional and that awareness neither inflated the ego nor broke the concentration — because professionals do not do that. Like a plumber who showed up, did the work, left the place better than they found it, and sent an invoice.
Etymology & Onomatopoeia
Tick and tink are small and percussive. Hork is the mid-range — the unit of mild inconvenience at ~0.089 seconds, the unit Dirty Harry confused for a goal. Ponk is heavier, the biological threshold (~8.8 seconds if ever derived from the recursion). Tonk is final and complete — a session done properly, 2 hours and 25 minutes of full presence, named by Nymfadora because it centres the experience rather than the metric. The names scale with the units. The doctrine was in the phonetics the whole time.

Inch vs metric incompatibility
L1A1 (inch-pattern) and standard FN (metric-pattern) parts look nearly identical but are not interchangeable. Headspace differs by ~0.006 in. Swapping bolts or bolt carriers between patterns produces dangerous out-of-spec headspace. Extremely common mix-up in battlefield scavenging and surplus kit resale. The visual similarity is the exploit.

The StG 58 and several Commonwealth versions have the gas plug default in the "grenade" (closed) position. Operators unfamiliar with this will fire one round normally, then experience bolt-over-base failure on the second. Fix is a single quarter-turn. Under stress the diagnostic is not obvious — the rifle appears to function once, then dies.

The Steyr StG 58 added longitudinal cuts to the bolt carrier to channel debris away from the bolt face. FN adopted this across all subsequent production. The adjustable gas plug is small and non-captive. On demilled/surplus rifles it is frequently missing or replaced with a fixed plug. Rifles with a fixed plug cannot be set for suppressed fire or grenade launching, and may cycle unreliably with some ammunition lots. Extremely common in American FAL kit-builds — the part is often the last thing a builder sourced.
